Hue Festival

Hue Festival is a big international cultural event organized every two years since the year 2000, under the initiative of Hue City and the French Embassy in Vietnam.
This festival is one of the biggest cultural activities not only for Hue City, but the whole country as well. The main objective is to respect the long-lasting traditional cultural values. Hue is an ancient capital, a World Heritage site, and has unique architecture, culture and art. Hue has diverse and long-lasting traditional festival activities and a beautiful natural landscape. Hue Festival is a center of regional cultural festivals.
Contents of art performances are carefully and generally chosen, reflected through IN and OFF. Special programs are painstakingly arranged, such as Nam Giao Royal precession (Nam Giao offering), honoring the values of World Cultural Heritages that are recognized by the UNESSCO, including Nha nhac (Court Music) and Complex of Hue Monuments. Besides, there are lots of festivals to honor handicrafts, artisans and cultural products, such as wooden, bamboo, pottery, and bronze products. They reflect the quintessence of art handicrafts and festival culture.

Hue Festival 2010
Under this scheme, the Hue Festival 2010 will be held from June 5-13, 2010. This is a national tourism and culture event, which will feature the cultural identity of Vietnam and the central city of Hue in particular.

The theme of next year’s Hue Festival is “Cultural heritage with integration and development”. The festival will be linked with the 1000th Thang Long – Hanoi anniversary, 375th anniversary of Hue as the capital of the southern region and 50th anniversary of the Hanoi-Hue-Saigon relations as the three representative cities of the northern, the central and the southern regions.
The major partner will be still France, with the participation of countries from five continents and art troupes from Hanoi, Hue, HCM City and provinces which host world heritage sites.
Besides traditional art items like the opening and closing ceremonies, the ao dai festival, the royal palace night, the legend of Huong River, and the Dan Nam Giao rituals, the Hue Festival 2010 will have new shows like Oriental night, the itinerary to the south, the Hanoi-Hue-Saigon music show and others.
The Thua Thien – Hue authorities agreed with the Hue Festival Centre in principle. However, the centre will have to change some details.
